Improving scenes- friday 13th march 2015

improving scenes

In this lesson we were learning and adding our own background theme, we are furthering this by the theme of "war" therefore making this particular theme more apparent.
We also thought about how these particular scene interlinked  into the context of the present day, we found out that wars are still happening therefore we could add this to our physical theatre by adding sounds that make it sound more like war and get that scenes of fear, this will show the audience that by use showing facial emotions that we are taking it all back to war but war in these days.
we also came up with other things that are still happening now, for example sexual abuse, this is still happening in many countries around the world, in contrast to this, this shows  in the script that it has carried on and wen Philomele gets rapped they show that tereus makes her feel guilty, which this still goes on too.
In this lesson we were told how we could improve out physicality in our performance piece by adding more expressions when we read our part of the script.
when Philomele talks about how she wants to die, she shows this by using a timid and low voice this shows the audience that Philomele has had enough. tereus had gone too far.
Meanwhile we also learnt that some words and phrases in the script show symbolisation, eg. grey dark sky shows that something bad is going to happen but by the writer putting this the audience will automatically wonder what else is coming or going to happen as this term "dark Sky" means dark things is coming to the next scene or the end scene.
tereus rapes Philomele but should we let him off?
the question we got asked made use think about what that really means, in consideration to this we came up with, is that just tereus, was that expectable in them days, did she do something to make him commit that terrible act or is he just twisted.
Furthermore Niobe comes across t first as a nice person as she speaks to Philomele and warms her about tereus, but when tereus did commit the crime, Niobe went horrible towards Philomele and basically said it was her own fault and she is now one of them.

  1. This is a much better post about a rehearsal. You have organised your thoughts a little more clearly, and you tie in some thoughts about the themes to the rehearsal activities.
